Back to hobbies ... and Life

Finally got a decent photo of our black pug. He's a beut! He has to think about things alot before dealing with them. He has to sniff and sniff and sniff on a spot and think about what it all means. While the boston terrier would just take a quick sniff and head out looking for things to eat or things to chase. The collar he wears has lots of spikes on it ... just to keep Sheba from chewing on it or using it to pull him around.

Captain D's for Dinner

Along with JaNae, we had fried fish for dinner tonight.

And a side-order of fried pickles with ranch dressing.

Drove a school bus to pickup kids and take them home again. (After they spent the day in school.) My MIG welder ran out of flux core wire ... I've only been using that 10 lb. roll for 2-1/2 years. Why did it have to run out now ... right in the middle of another bicycle project? Those darn rolls cost $40 a piece at Lowe's or Home Depot.

Oh well, time to go read Fern Michaels or Todd McCaffrey.

Litter

What we have here is -- litter.
It is all over the ground ... it covers the grass, it covers the driveway, I hear it bounce off roofs and cars. I am not talking about the leaves ... I am talking about the plague of pecan nuts. You can't walk or drive without hearing them go "crunch!"

Along with the pecans come squirrels, blue jays, mockingbirds, doves, and cardinals. The crows have such a wide range of choice of eats, that they don't even bother coming around here.

I've filled up box after box of these ... can you imagine the idea of bending over and picking them up one-by-one? Neither can I ... so I use a little spring thing at the end of a pole to pick them up with (without bending over).

I must admit, they shell-out fairly easily and taste really good !!
see ya! :)

A Little Ribs

Today we were downwind of the First Assembly of God church
And this great big BBQ smoker that this fellow made.
They were cooking ribs and Boston Butt.

Notice he is standing on a platform about wheel-top level.

Ooh! Ooh! Those are ribs he is pulling out !!!

Talk about absolutely delicious!
Lunch today was soooo yummy!
Lots of paper towels required ...
finger-lickin' good.

Wear & Tear

See the hole worn thru in the heel area?
I had noticed that the soles were feeling a bit thin ...

The tops are still perfectly fine ... a little wear in the heel area.
It's disgusting that they are ONLY 4 or 5 years old.
I hoped they would have lasted longer.
For the price you pay, you'd expect a good pair of shoes to last longer, wouldn't you?
And it's not likely that I can get them re-soled.

I'm so disappointed that I'll just have to go and buy another pair of Teva shoes to replace them.

Student Art Show

There were a lot of pieces from High School Students and from people who take Saturday classes at the gallery.

This was the first show this young lady had art pieces being displayed ... the 4 on the level of her shoulders and the mountain seen thru the trees. She wore heels, jewelry, and a slinky dress.

Yes, that is all really string.

I like this piece of portrait peering out from the dusk.

Another model drawn by Joan.

I like this one done by Jeff.
He has a really good touch on his charcoal drawings.

Photos and poetry by Aubrey.

A pallet knife sketch of Aubrey by another artist.

And I just loved the beautiful simplicity of this one.

Trees - Leafing

Trees are shedding all over the yard. I would really appreciate it if they would coordinate and all of them drop their leaves on the same weekend ... instead of spreading it out over 2 or 3 months. We are tripping over pecans as well. Filled up a jumbo can while just trying to clear a path up the hill to the mailbox. Kind of overloaded this year.

Possible Job??

Schneider and J.B. Hunt responded back that they didn't have any openings for a trucker from my location.

A couple weeks ago I submitted an application for a position called: "Contract MS Therapist" ... they called me yesterday morning and asked me to come in for an INTERVIEW yesterday afternoon. I went ... we talked ... they explained their program ( I'd be an independent contractor responsible for my own taxes and self-employment taxes) ... I figured this should be at least an interesting change from trucking ... and said I'd love to do it. Filled out some paperwork and promised to bring in some more paperwork today.

When I took the paperwork in today ... Linda asked, "Were your ears burning after you left yesterday? We were definitely talking about you!" (she assured me that it was positive)

The MS doesn't stand for multiple sclerosis ... it means that you had to have a Master's of Science degree in Psychology or Counseling. I told them that I don't have an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) license. They said that was okay, they have a PhD. Psychologist on staff that reviews and signs all the paperwork.

I kinda feel like such an impostor. At least when it comes to "conventional" therapy. I have a hard time believing that they would really want me ... Oh well. My wife says that I need to cross my "t's" higher and I'll feel better about myself.

Sheep-Dipped

"I done been sheep-dipped today!"

We've been dealing with mange ...
My wife first had treated him for a couple of days with a mixture of Hydrogen Peroxide & Borax. Then had gone to a mix of sulfur and lard.

We took him to the Vet (DVM) today ... and he said he found some eggs but no actual mites (which are what cause the problem). He asked my wife what she had done to get rid of the living mites ... anyway, he then dropped him into the sheep-dip tank and said we should bring him back in a week for another dip. And that should be the end of it.

The vet also took a blood sample looking for heart worms (none found). And gave him a rabies shot. So he is feeling a bit "down" at the moment.

Load Delivered.

Got the load all delivered.
I'm back home and exhausted after only 5 days of driving work. Took a nap this afternoon and feel like going back to bed early this evening.

Got some feedback on a job application ...
It requires going thru SERE training. Oh darn. I can't even run or jog anymore without certain muscles feeling like they are tearing in half.
