Back to hobbies ... and Life

Finally got a decent photo of our black pug. He's a beut! He has to think about things alot before dealing with them. He has to sniff and sniff and sniff on a spot and think about what it all means. While the boston terrier would just take a quick sniff and head out looking for things to eat or things to chase. The collar he wears has lots of spikes on it ... just to keep Sheba from chewing on it or using it to pull him around.

Chicken Coop thought

My cousin Joe has this chicken coop.
He says that he needs to make the outdoor run area
6ft tall with a door on the end.
He says it is ridiculous climbing in through the top of this
and crawling around inside to do anything.
It is constructed of 2 pieces ...
The coop
and the run area
which are attachable/removable from each other
for the purpose of moving the coop and run
to fresh ground area or to shovel up the poop
for over-wintering on the garden area
and then till it into the garden in the Spring.
Otherwise, it is too "hot" to use immediately to fertilize
the garden.

This is the main front door for inside access to the coop.
It is good for cleaning out the poop layer ...
And for getting the odd egg that isn't laid in a nest.
Notice the ventilation strips up near the roof.

This side door is for direct access into the nests.
Handy when getting the eggs.

You open the door, and there the chickens are
on the nests.  Just reach under them for the eggs.

An inside view of the nest boxes from the front door.
Roosting ladder and overhead roosting bars.
slanted roof over nesting box to chicken off.

Here's the chicken ladder.
There is also a sliding door at the top of the ladder
to lock all the chickens safely inside.
The floor of the outside run also has chicken wire
to slow down anything digging inside to get chicken meals.
Under the coop is a shaded area that the chickens like.
Also with chicken wire under it.

I was going to build one of these and even bought the lumber.
However, in light of the moving notice ...
I won't do that at this time.
Now I need to get rid of excess "stuff" ... :-p
